LMA in Action
YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW
For Lutheran Ministries Association, YESTERDAY began in 1899 when local German Lutherans organized a city missionary society to care for the ill, insane and imprisoned of their day. We can thank the Spirit of God that they felt the impulse to save fellow German-speaking Lutherans languishing in city institutions. It did not stop there. They determined to send a preacher of the Gospel to brothers and sisters beyond their congregations, and they discovered another world of social responsibility.
From quarters just south of where the Arch stands today, Rev. F. W. Herzberger led St. Louis Lutherans into ministry to convicts, orphans and other poor outcasts of the day, regardless of nationality. Shot out of the heart of God, Rev. Herzberger began a work, fueled by human need, sustained by the love of Christ, supported by local Lutherans like you and me.
It was this need that caused early St. Louis Lutherans, many of them women, to ask the hard questions and form answers: answers that came in the form of an ambitious variety of charitable programs and education in the saving news of the Gospel. That was then.
TODAY Lutheran Ministries Association- (LMA)- continues to devote its resources to serving those confined in nursing homes, long-term care facilities and jails. Through nine distinct programs, LMA chaplains work one-on-one to bring mercy, understanding and practical resources to those individuals and families taxed beyond their limits in dealing with incarceration, illness and age.
Each year, through our ministries and services, LMA shares compassion, resources, friendship and God's love with 30,000 individuals and families who are seeking His strength and salvation.
In partnership with congregations, organizations, individuals and businesses, LMA is able to make a difference through Jail Ministries, Healthcare Ministries and Community Ministries. It's not a hand out. It's a hand up. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Tomorrow
The need marches on ...
All of LMA's programs are critical to the support of people God calls us never to forget. With your continued help, we can continue to serve God's children, regardless of their circumstances.
For all of these hundred years, Lutheran Ministries Association has enjoyed the partnership of numerous Lutheran Congregations of both the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. LMA is grateful to have the support of over 500 donors.
Additionally Lutheran Ministries Association has partnered with multiple nursing home sites in the form of paid service contracts. Some of these sites have been unable to continue their financial contracts, leaving the residents of these homes without pastoral care, advocacy and spiritual support. To continue bringing God's love to the residents of these homes, we need your help.
LMA Chaplains are extraordinary men and women. They do this work because they love it and because they are called to it. More chaplains are needed. More services are needed. More of God's children stand in need of care.
There are many ways you ensure that LMA will continue to serve.
